Quick Summary
UK padel's fastest-growing demographic is juniors — 6-14 year olds whose parents started playing in 2024-25 and brought the kids along. Most UK clubs running adult padel now have a weekly junior session. The single biggest issue we see at those sessions: kids using oversized adult rackets, leading to wrist strain and entrenched bad technique that takes years to undo.
This guide solves that. We've researched and compared junior padel frames across three age tiers (5-7, 8-10, 11-14), drawing on the feedback of UK clubs running junior coaching, and ranked them by weight, length, core construction, and value.
Our top picks:
- Age 5-7: Kuikma Kids Padel at £25 (Decathlon UK)
- Age 8-10: Head Junior Padel at £45 (Amazon UK)
- Age 11-14: Bullpadel Junior 02 at £60 (Padel Nuestro UK)
The non-negotiable rule: never put a child on an adult racket. The frame weight + swing physics put loads on developing joints that they're not ready for. Junior frames cost less and protect the wrist + elbow during the most formative years of technique development.

How to Size a Padel Racket for a Child {#sizing}
Get this right and the rest is easy. Get it wrong and you'll end up with a kid who hates padel.
The three sizing axes
Weight. This is the most important variable.
- Age 5-7: 230-260g
- Age 8-10: 270-310g
- Age 11-14: 320-360g
- Age 15+ with developed strength: standard adult (360-380g)
Length. Junior frames are shorter than adult padel rackets (45.5cm standard).
- Age 5-7: 38-40cm
- Age 8-10: 40-42cm
- Age 11-14: 42-44cm
- Age 15+: full 45.5cm
Core hardness. The core material determines how the racket reacts on contact.
- Foam — extremely soft, near-zero risk of mishit injury, used for ages 5-7
- Soft EVA — slightly firmer than foam, more feedback, ages 8-10
- EVA Hybrid — adult-like response with some softness for forgiveness, ages 11-14
- Hard EVA / Carbon — adult/competition only
The age-vs-strength judgement
These are typical ranges, not rules. A small 10-year-old might need an 8-year-old frame; a tall, strong 9-year-old might be ready for an 11-year-old frame. Two adjustment cues:
- Have them hold the racket out to the side for 10 seconds. If their wrist drops or they shake, the racket is too heavy.
- Watch them swing. If the racket "drags" them through the swing (their body twists with the racket rather than the racket following their body), it's too heavy.
When in doubt, size down. A racket that's too light teaches no bad habits; a racket that's too heavy causes wrist injuries and entrenched bad swings.
Why Junior-Specific Rackets Matter {#why-junior}
We see parents at UK padel clubs every week handing their 8-year-old an adult racket because "she'll grow into it." Don't.
A standard adult padel racket weighs 360-380g and has its weight distributed for adult swing speeds. When a child swings this:
- The wrist takes load it's not ready for, leading to early-onset wrist strain
- The swing becomes a body-twist instead of an arm-led motion, entrenching bad technique
- The frame head doesn't respond at the kid's swing speed, so contact feels dead and motivation drops
UK padel club coaches we spoke to consistently put junior wrist issues at the top of their "preventable injury" list. The fix is always the same: get a junior racket.
The flip side: junior rackets are cheap. A proper £25-£60 junior frame protects against months of physiotherapy bills.
Detailed Racket Reviews {#detailed-reviews}
Kuikma Kids Padel {#kuikma-kids}
Price: £25 | Weight: 230g | Length: 38cm | Core: Foam | Age: 5-7
Decathlon's house-brand junior is the right starter racket for almost every UK 5-7 year old. Ultra-light foam construction means it's basically incapable of injuring a wrist; the soft surface means mishit balls don't hurt the player or anyone they accidentally hit; the £25 price makes it expendable when the kid leaves it in a park.
For UK buyers: in every Decathlon UK store. Take the child in for hands-on sizing — most UK Decathlons have a small "try the racket" space.
Verdict: the obvious starter. Buy it without overthinking.
Decathlon Padel Junior 100
Price: £30 | Weight: 250g | Length: 40cm | Core: Soft EVA | Age: 5-7 (advanced) / 8 (smaller kids)
A step up from the Kids Padel — slightly heavier, slightly longer, with soft-EVA core instead of foam. Suits the 6-7 year-old who's done 6 months on the Kuikma Kids and is ready for slightly more racket feel.
Verdict: the natural upgrade from the Kuikma Kids. Skip if your child went straight to the 8-10 tier.
Head Junior Padel {#head-junior}
Price: £45 | Weight: 290g | Length: 41cm | Core: Soft EVA | Age: 8-10
The mainstream UK pick for 8-10 year olds. Head's junior frame inherits the cosmetics, grip pattern, and frame technology of their adult Speed series — so a kid who graduates to the adult Speed lineup at 13-14 will find their racket feels familiar.
For UK buyers: Amazon UK carries it with next-day delivery. £45 is fair value.
Verdict: the safe default for ages 8-10. Buy this if you're unsure.
Adidas Adipower Junior
Price: £55 | Weight: 295g | Length: 41cm | Core: EVA Hybrid | Age: 8-10
Adidas's junior take on their Adipower line. Slightly firmer EVA than the Head Junior — gives more feedback on clean contact but less forgiveness on mishits. For a kid who's already serious about padel (year 2+ of coaching), this is a good step up; for casual play it's slightly more racket than needed.
For UK buyers: Amazon UK and Sports Direct.
Verdict: the keen-junior pick.
Bullpadel Junior 01
Price: £40 | Weight: 280g | Length: 40cm | Core: EVA Soft | Age: 8-10 (smaller kids) / 7-8 (taller kids)
Bullpadel's entry-level junior with their pro-tour brand cachet. Same materials philosophy as the Head Junior but slightly lighter and shorter — fits smaller 8-year-olds and taller 7-year-olds well.
For UK buyers: Padel Nuestro UK is the most reliable stock. Amazon UK is intermittent.
Verdict: the right pick for smaller kids in the 8-10 bracket, or kids whose parents play Bullpadel and want the matching family brand.
Bullpadel Junior 02 {#bullpadel-junior-02}
Price: £60 | Weight: 320g | Length: 43cm | Core: EVA Soft | Age: 11-14
The transition frame from junior to adult. 320g is the upper limit of safe junior weight; 43cm is one centimetre shorter than the adult standard 45.5cm. For 11-14 year olds, this is the frame that bridges into adult padel without putting adult loads on still-developing joints.
For UK buyers: Padel Nuestro UK has consistent stock; expect intermittent Amazon listings.
Verdict: the strongest pick for 11-14 year olds — and the frame UK club coaches recommend most often for kids in junior coaching programmes.
Head Speed Junior
Price: £80 | Weight: 340g | Length: 43cm | Core: EVA Hybrid | Age: 12-14 (competitive)
The serious-junior frame. At 340g and EVA-hybrid core, this is closer to an adult intermediate racket than a true junior. For 12-14 year olds in competitive junior tournaments, this is the right tool. For casual junior players, it's overspec.
For UK buyers: Padel Nuestro UK is the only reliable stockist. £80 is a meaningful step up from the £60 Bullpadel Junior 02 — only worth it if the kid is in serious coaching.
Verdict: the competitive-junior pick. Most parents don't need this.

Coaching: Where to Find UK Junior Sessions {#coaching}
Junior padel coaching in the UK has grown fast in 2024-2026. Most UK padel venues running adult programmes now have weekly junior sessions, typically Saturday or Sunday mornings.
Where to look:
- LTA Padel club finder — the governing body lists clubs with junior pathways
- Padium chain — runs structured junior sessions at every UK Padium venue
- Padel Social Club — junior holiday camps + weekly sessions in London + Manchester
- Game4Padel — junior beginner sessions at many of their UK indoor sites
- Local independent clubs — many UK padel clubs run informal "kids and parents" sessions, worth asking at your nearest club
What to expect:
- 60-90 minute sessions, typically £8-15 per child
- Group sizes of 4-8 kids
- Court time + games, not lecture-style teaching
- Rackets often provided for first sessions (so you can size yours after seeing what works)
LTA Padel pathway: The LTA's official junior padel framework structures training from age 7 upwards. If your child is showing genuine interest, contact an LTA Padel accredited coach — they can run formal skill assessments and recommend appropriate progression.
Safety: What Parents Should Know {#safety}
Padel is safer than tennis for kids, but a few things worth knowing.
Court walls. The walls are glass or steel mesh. Kids running into them is rare but happens — the impact is more bruising than injury, but worth coaching them on early.
Eye protection. Padel balls travel fast and the close court means kids can get hit by their partner's shot. Sports eyewear is optional but worth considering for ages 5-10. Decathlon sells suitable sports glasses around £12-15.
Hydration and break frequency. UK indoor padel venues run warm — the heating + closed space + glass walls + activity adds up. Bring water; encourage 5-minute breaks every 30-40 minutes for under-10s.
Heat injuries in summer. UK outdoor padel venues during a heatwave (rare but real) can be brutal for kids. Schedule outdoor padel for mornings or evenings if temperatures are above 25°C.
Footwear. Kids' regular trainers don't grip artificial turf well. Padel-specific shoes start at £30 (Decathlon Kuikma junior shoes). For casual once-a-month play, regular non-marking trainers are fine. For weekly play, get proper padel shoes — same wrist-safety logic as the racket.
